Career coaching helps you rise above your fears and doubts and discover new ways.

Recently, one of my career coaching clients, let’s call her Nina (not her real name), came to her coaching call feeling discouraged. She had run into a seemingly insurmountable barrier since our last conversation.

At the end of her last career coaching session she had committed to contact several individuals for informational interviews to explore a professional field she felt drawn to. In previous career coaching sessions, she had reached clarity that her innate strengths would serve her well in this field. She was excited about the possibility of starting her new career. Now she wanted gain further insights into what it was like to work in this career, by talking to professionals.

Celebrate What’s Right – One of The Most Effective Keys to Success

One of my clients found herself at a cross road with her business, moving from a booming economy to a sparser time. She and her partners suddenly needed to put more effort into marketing. For years their business had been thriving and new and returning business had found them easily and effortlessly. However, in times of cut-backs and down-sizing, they were unsure how to succeed.
I asked my client to take a stance at her window and revisit in her mind all the success they had achieved over the past 23 years in business. As she stood there, she felt her body tingle with joy as she saw a movie play before her eyes showcasing all her happy clients. She saw and felt the difference she had made in their lives and businesses.

Shrink your mountains into mole hills – Get it done!

During a recent coaching session, my client Joe (not his real name) told me about a seemingly simple project that was causing him much dread and anxiety. Writing a bio to be submitted for his next professional advancement had become an insurmountable challenge. Joe didn’t know how to get it done. He had spent all weekend avoiding it and feeling bad about it. Together we explored the factors that had blown this project out of proportion and identified two main factors:

How to Flourish?

how to flourish?

As I marvel at the beauty and particularity of my favourite poppy, I am reminded just how important it is for us to learn how to flourish.

The California poppies have just begun showing their beautiful, bright orange faces on the rocky hillsides of Victoria. I still remember my first trip to Vancouver Island, long before I knew I would live here one day. I was admiring the Golden Poppies on the rocky slopes alongside the highway that was taking us towards the city. They seemed to brighten up the rock faces along our way with joyful smiles.

Break Free from Your Fear of Missing Out

How to live a balanced life

Career direction through life coaching

The fear of missing out can have us all tied up in a frenzy. Ruth (not her real name), one of my life coaching clients, used to suffer from fear of missing out. Whenever she was invited to a party she simply had to attend. Even if she felt tired, in need of some alone time, or was already booked to go somewhere else that evening. Her fear of missing out had a hard grip on her indeed. As a result she felt pulled in all directions and exhausted when she first contacted me.

Curiosity is the Cure – How to Let Go of Comparison

We easily get trapped in comparing ourselves to other people. Either we see them above or below ourselves. When we engage in this type of comparison, we often don’t realize that we are comparing our feelings, thoughts and beliefs, essentially our inside with the outward appearance of another person. You will never be able to see yourself from the outside. Neither will you be able to experience the other person from the inside, feel their feelings, think their thoughts, and believe their beliefs. Here’s how to let go of comparison so that you can stand confidently in who you are and appreciate others for who they are.

How to Delegate Effectively

When you learn how to delegate effectively, it frees up time and energy to focus on what you do best and enjoy most.

When you learn how to delegate effectively, it frees up time and energy to focus on what you do best and enjoy most.

When I think about how to delegate effectively, I immediately think of Gloria, the treasurer of our community choir. Before concerts she sends out an e-mail asking for volunteers for specific tasks such as greeting people at the door and putting up chairs before the concert. During concert nights, Gloria sits in her chair by the door with a big smile on her face and directs the many volunteers around. She has no qualm about asking for help and receiving it. Gloria is my source of inspiration when it comes to learning how to delegate effectively!

Beyond Independence – How to Receive Support Through Life Coaching

The idealization of succeeding independently inherent to North American culture creates a major barrier for many people to reach out and ask for support through life coaching. Often when someone inquires about my life coaching services, the first thing s/he says is: “I know, I should be able to figure this out on my own.”

Life Coaching is like a Smoothie for the Soul

while sipping one of my favourite smoothies, I noticed just how much smoothies and life coaching have in common

While sipping one of my favourite smoothies, I noticed just how much smoothies and life coaching have in common…

One of my favourite summer treats is to blend an abundance of berries and vegetables from the garden into a delicious smoothie. Recently, while sipping one of my favourite smoothies, I noticed just how much smoothies and life coaching have in common. Here are some of the common qualities I discovered on my porch while savouring my smoothie.

Delicious: In life coaching you are seen, acknowledged and known with your unique strengths, values and passions. It is one of the most delicious experiences, I have come to know. Here is how one of my clients describes her experience: “From the start I felt that Julia understood me and knew what I was meaning to say even when I had difficulties articulating my feelings.”

Success on Your Terms with Life Coaching

Create success on your terms with life coaching.

Create success on your terms with life coaching.

Success as defined by Webster is: “the attainment of wealth, favour or eminence.” Success on your own terms can be something entirely different. Here’s how a few of my life coaching clients define success:

“Feeling confident about my decisions. Finding time for the things I love and letting go of things that don’t matter. Having confidence that what I do is worth the money.”

“Working every day to the utmost of my ability to fulfill my goals, use my gifts, expand my horizon, nurture good relationships and do something good in the world.”

“Having great balance of work, play and travel. Having more energy, less self-doubt and feeling more relaxed. Doing work that has fulfilling challenges along with good rhythm. Not feeling guilty about enjoying other aspects of my life.”
